The Hollywoodbets Sharks’ Playmaking Puzzle Gets a Major Boost as Manie Libbok Heads Back to Durban

The Hollywoodbets Sharks are set for a significant boost to their backline resources, with Springbok flyhalf Manie Libbok confirmed to return to Durban in July 2027 after agreeing to a multi-year deal with the franchise.

The 29-year-old playmaker will rejoin the Sharks following the completion of his commitments with Japanese club Hanazono Kintetsu Liners, marking a return to familiar surroundings for a player who previously represented the Durban-based outfit during the 2020/21 season.

Libbok has built an impressive reputation as one of South African rugby’s most creative attacking players. Known for his vision, distribution, ability to unlock defensive lines and attacking instincts, he brings a different dimension to any backline he represents.

His career has continued to flourish since his previous stint with the Sharks. Following his departure, he joined the Stormers, where he played an instrumental role in their historic 2021/22 United Rugby Championship title-winning campaign. His performances also saw him finish as the competition’s leading points scorer in consecutive seasons.

At international level, Libbok has established himself as an important member of the Springbok setup. He was part of South Africa’s Rugby World Cup-winning squad in 2023, gaining valuable experience on rugby’s biggest stage and contributing to the team’s successful campaign.

His return represents an exciting addition to the Sharks’ ambitions under head coach JP Pietersen, who will have another experienced playmaker available to strengthen the team’s attacking options.

For the Sharks, securing a player with Libbok’s experience, creativity and understanding of South African rugby could prove valuable as they continue building a competitive squad capable of challenging across domestic and international competitions.

The move also brings Libbok back to a franchise where his professional journey in Durban first began, giving supporters something exciting to look forward to when he officially joins the squad in July 2027.

Manie Libbok is coming home, and the Hollywoodbets Sharks will be looking forward to seeing his creativity in black and white once again.
